In keeping with what is becoming a trend of summarising the bands successes over the year gone by, a few words follow for all our supporters and ex members from far and wide who like to know what's going on.
The year started well at the Mini Bands by receiving the first Band Trophy. Silverware for Solos and Trios are nothing new to the pipe corps, but this, although modest, confirms the improvements throughout the band.
As is too often the case, a step forward is often equaled with a knock back and the exciting arrival of Gordon to the pipe corps, sadly coincided with the loss of Jackie as she moved out of the area.
Despite other commitments, we still managed to get to our first Major Contest; the British Championships at Birmingham, if only with a minimum turnout and a first for our youngest piper; Mike. Something didn't click that day and we failed to qualify, yet a great experience and opportunity to see some top class piping and drumming!
Performances at Ashbourne and Chatsworth were much better, well attended and enjoyed by all. Again, with so many new learners, it was a first for Dave and Tanya in the Mid Section, and Patrick in the pipe corps. Although disappointed with the results, the band played quite well, and can be seen in action on YouTube.
This is the time of year bands reflect on their achievements and make plans for the year ahead, and we're no different. On the back of a fantastic Concert performance at the Hull City Hall, everything feels on track. Changes to the repertoire include an MSR as a development piece, which along with more learners coming through the ranks, and the strongest Mid Section ever known in the band, everyone is looking forward to 2009. Furthermore contact from a number of neighbouring bandsmen across Yorkshire, could mean that 2009 exceeds all expectations!
