Drumming up Something Special

Date: 16 Mar 2009

The New Year has seen new recruits to the drum section bringing with it an increased buzz about the band. The work throughout the back end of the 2008 season seems to have paid dividends, as the sound produced by the pipe corps seems to be improving week on week. But it's the drum corps that are expected to make the biggest advances this year. Tom McCann L/D has secured the investment from old friends; Fred Woodward and Bill Brand, which together with Brian Thompson will swell the ranks to a size and standard never seen before in any chapter of the band's history.

Not only will the pipe section be lifted by the work that is being done by the drummers, but the corps benefit directly as David Waterton-Anderson KSG joins the ranks. David Tucker and Peter Kenyon-Brodie also return to piping, which along with the prospect of a couple of learners expecting to progress onto the pipes by the end of the year, 2010 could see a few more pipers in the line up.

All in all it's a very exciting time for everyone in and around the band; increased tuition for learners and improvements in the musicality and tone are seen week on week. Furthermore, contact from experienced pipers from far and wide offering their knowledge and experience makes for a positive future for the band.
