We started in 2009 with lots of changes in the drum corps and it appears we're finishing the year in the same way. Just as things were settling nicely, including improved competition results, LD Tom McCann moved even further away from the band for work in Leicestershire at the end of the season. Tom's shown great commitment over the years traveling from Scunthorpe, to build the drum corps to the strongest it has ever been, however after securing new employment in Leicester it meant remaining in the band was just not possible. It's a double blow for the band as we also loose Tanya McCann; wife and Tenor Drummer. Fortunately as one door closes another opens, as the vacancy for Lead Drummer was quickly filled by Phil Dickinson, former leading drummer of City of York Pipe Band. Phil taught our drummers in Beverley & District Pipe Band prior to Tom's arrival, hence is no stranger to the band, and has settled quickly into his new role as leading drummer. Phil, like a number of recent new members has a wealth of experience, even in the upper grades, and will be a great asset to the band. Tom has since joined Leicestershire and Rutland County RBL Pipe Band, so we wish him well there and look forward to competing against them soon.
Other news includes Phil Holmes and David Walker's return to the line-up, further to recent illness - It's great to see you both back at practice regularly! Furthermore Peter Grant, former lead drummer of the East Riding Caledonia Pipe Band is to join the Drum Corps in the new year.
