This Site is the product of a study into web site development by Paul Wright. As a result it is focused heavily towards content management and accessibility.
This site is hosted on Apache Linux. Making use of open source software means it is inexpensive to host. Furthermore, there are no expensive programs required to produce the pages. The content is held within a SQL (Structured Query Language) Database, in this case MySQL, which is maintained using phpMyAdmin. Everything else is done in a simple text editor.
PHP (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor) is used to build the HTML (HyperText Markup Language) pages dynamically reading the content from the Database. Your browser interprets the HTML content and gets the web page appearance and structure from CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).
Everything is done by the Apache Server, nothing relies on your browser or associated plug-ins, hence making this information available to everyone, and not just those with all the latest plug-ins and a big fat internet connection!
