Trio Triumph

Sunday saw the long awaited Branch Solo Contests following their cancellation back in snowy February. But it was a busy day coupled with the Trios.

Respectable performances produced respectable results in the Solos. Alex played well in the Novice March coming 5th out of 8 and Paul managed 3rd in the Open March and MSR, both out of 8. Paul’s performance in the Open also earned him a 2nd place trophy in the previous winners category. Admittedly there were only two entries!

However the result of the day was from the Grade 4b Selection Trio Contest. The band’s entry came 5th out of 13 Trios, placed above all entries from Houghton Le Spring, North Yorks Fire & Rescue, and Newton Aycliffe. Topped only by trios from Morpeth (a grade 4A band) and one from Ampleforth.

This came as a pleasant surprise as tuning up in an echoey changing room masked minor chanter issues that only became apparent during the performance, not to mention a poor introduction!

The trio received some really good, constructive comments from the adjudicator too, so all in all a very worth while visit up Houghton Le Spring.

Well done Alex, Patrick and Paul!
